When someone gets a new motorcycle its almost instinct to start considering the things you want to do to the bike. When I say ‘things you want to do to the bike’ I of course mean custom paint, change the bars, maybe add new wheels and not course I don’t mean creepy and inappropriate sexual things. It seems like wheels are one of the first things people consider changing and while its easy to get down on people for that, changing wheels also happens to not only be easy but can make a huge statement. Next owners tend to focus on bars, lighting, and the seat as bolt-ons are really easy projects to start and complete in a single day.
The trouble with all these mods is that you are failing to recognize one thing: the rider. Motorcycles are made to be ridden. That means there should be a rider on the bike at least as much as it sits motionless. It seems to me like its rather easy to make a bike look good standing still with only a reasonably good photographer but what about the rest of the time? Now I’m not suggesting you go out and get a color matched riding suit but I am suggesting that in the same way a set of wheels can change the way a bike looks a custom helmet can do the same for the rider!
First let me say this: You should NEVER jeopardize your safety for style
That being said if the gear is from a reputable manufacture and the helmet meets DOT standards then go all out and have some fun with it! Why can’t you make your helmet yours in the same way you want to with your bike?
You can of course go the simple route of just putting stickers on the thing
You could step up a bit and buy a helmet that has some custom elements already
From here you can go full custom paint job like these helmets and other featured at events like the Skull Canvas Custom Helmet shows
The last option is go all out and wrap the whole damn thing in leather and add a custom face mask like this setup from Roland Sands Design
And not only can you customize the helmet but as Roland did with the last mask you can add other elements such as goggles or one of our custom leather motorcycle masks
Of course this is only a smattering of the surface of custom motorcycle helmets. There are even people riding around in customized Ironman helmets along with Batman, Redhood, Halo, Army of One, and uber futuristic military helmets. For a wider view of the amazing ideas people have come up check the Weld Burn Pinterest Helmet Board
The point should be pretty clear by now but if not here it is: don’t forget to customize your brain bucket while you are working on your bike!
